Pantherama!

Pantherama! is primarily known as the title of a musical revue produced by the [[Royal Shakespeare Company]] (RSC) in 1974.

The production was a radical and experimental theatrical piece staged at The Place, London, as part of the RSC's "Other Place" ventures, which aimed to explore new forms of theatre. It was directed by Peter Gill, with text by Howard Schuman and music by Stanley Myers.

Pantherama! explored themes of rebellion, freedom, and identity, often using the panther as a multifaceted symbol—evoking both the animal's untamed nature and political connotations associated with movements like the [[Black Panther Party]]. The show incorporated elements of jazz, blues, and spoken word, reflecting the diverse cultural and political landscape of the early 1970s. It featured a dynamic score and a performative style that aimed to challenge conventional theatrical structures. While not a mainstream success, it is remembered as a significant example of experimental theatre during a politically charged era within British theatre history.
