Paddington in Peru is a live-action/CGI animated adventure comedy film directed by Dougal Wilson. It serves as the third installment in the Paddington film franchise, following Paddington (2014) and Paddington 2 (2017). The series is based on the character Paddington Bear created by British author Michael Bond.
The production is handled by Heyday Films and StudioCanal. The screenplay was written by Mark Burton, Jon Foster, and James Lamont, based on a story by Paul King, Simon Farnaby, and Mark Burton. Unlike the previous two films, which were directed by Paul King, this installment marks the feature film directorial debut of Dougal Wilson.
The narrative follows Paddington as he returns to his native Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. Accompanied by the Brown family, the journey leads them into a quest through the Amazon rainforest and the Peruvian mountains.
The cast features Ben Whishaw returning as the voice of Paddington and Imelda Staunton as the voice of Aunt Lucy. Hugh Bonneville, Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin, and Julie Walters reprise their roles from the previous films. Emily Mortimer joins the cast, replacing Sally Hawkins in the role of Mrs. Brown. New cast members include Antonio Banderas and Olivia Colman.
Filming took place on location in London, Peru, and Colombia. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in the United Kingdom on November 8, 2024, followed by a release in the United States on January 17, 2025.
