PFC Zviahel

Football Club Zviahel (Ukrainian: Футбольний клуб Звягель) is a Ukrainian association football team based in the city of Zviahel, Zhytomyr Oblast. The club currently competes in the Ukrainian Second League, the third tier of the national football pyramid, and plays its home matches at Avanhard Stadium, which has a capacity of approximately 3,000 spectators.

History
The club was originally founded in 1993 under the name Zviahel‑93 and participated exclusively in regional competitions of Zhytomyr Oblast. Early successes included winning the regional league in its inaugural season (1993) and finishing as runner‑up in 1994, as well as securing the oblast cup in 1996 and 1997. In 1997 the team briefly operated under the name Lider. Financial difficulties forced the club to dissolve in 2002, at which time it was known as Fortuna Novohrad‑Volynskyi.

A revival effort led by local sports school staff and city authorities resulted in the re‑establishment of the club in March 2016. Since its revival, the team has achieved notable results in regional competitions, winning the Zhytomyr Oblast league in 2019 and 2020 and participating in national amateur cup tournaments. The club entered the national amateur league system in 2021; however, the competition was interrupted by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

In 2022 the club made its professional debut, becoming the first team from Zviahel to play at that level. This advancement coincided with the Ukrainian parliament’s decision on 16 November 2022 to restore the city’s historic name “Zviahel,” aligning the club’s name with the city’s official designation. The team earned promotion to the Ukrainian Second League for the 2023–24 season, finishing third in its group and securing promotion through the play‑offs.

As of 2024, the club’s future was subject to speculation due to the emergence of a reserve side, Polissya‑2, but statements from local media in May 2024 indicated that PFC Zviahel intended to continue competing.

Stadium
PFC Zviahel plays at Avanhard Stadium in Zviahel. The venue holds roughly 3,000 spectators and serves as a multi‑purpose sports facility for the city.
