Oxberg is a village (småort) located in Mora Municipality, Dalarna County, Sweden. It is situated approximately 28 kilometers northwest of the town of Mora, positioned near the shores of Lake Oxbergssjön and the Österdalälven river.
The village is most widely recognized for its integral role in the Vasaloppet, the world's oldest and largest long-distance cross-country ski race. Oxberg serves as one of the seven official checkpoints along the 90-kilometer course that runs from Sälen to Mora. In addition to being a checkpoint for the main event, Oxberg is the starting location for several other races held during the Vasaloppet Winter Week, including Tjejvasan, Kortvasan, and Halvvasan.
Historically, Oxberg was characterized by traditional Swedish rural industries such as forestry and small-scale agriculture. The village features the Oxberg Chapel (Oxbergs kapell), a wooden structure originally built in the 1700s and later moved and reconstructed in the 19th century.
As a residential area, the population is small, typically consisting of fewer than 200 permanent inhabitants. However, the locality experiences significant seasonal influxes of visitors due to its status as a hub for outdoor recreation and competitive skiing. Transportation to the village is facilitated by the Vasaloppet road (Vasaloppsvägen) and its proximity to the historical railway line between Mora and Älvdalen, although passenger rail service is no longer standard for the village.
