Osredek nad Stično lies in the historical region of Lower Carniola (Slovene: Dolenjska) and is presently included in the Central Slovenia Statistical Region. The settlement is situated on a hillside north‑west of the larger settlement of Stična, to which its name refers. According to data from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia, the settlement covers an area of approximately 0.53 km² and had a resident population of 14 people as of the 2002 census. The elevation of the settlement is about 530 m above sea level. The locality is primarily rural, with land use dominated by forested areas and scattered agricultural fields.

Etymology/Origin
The name Osredek is derived from the Slovene common noun osredek, meaning “center” or “mid‑point,” often used in toponyms to denote a place situated in a central or intermediate position within a landscape. The second part, nad Stično, translates as “above Stična,” indicating the settlement’s position on higher ground relative to the nearby settlement of Stična, which is known for its historic Cistercian Abbey.

Characteristics

  • Geography: The settlement is positioned on a gently sloping terrain that marks the transition between the lowlands of the Mirna River basin and the higher foothills of the Sava Hills. The surrounding environment is characterized by mixed deciduous forests and meadowland.
  • Demographics: The population is very small, with a low density typical of dispersed rural habitations in the region. Residents are predominantly engaged in agriculture, forestry, or commuting to nearby towns for employment.
  • Infrastructure: Osredek nad Stiço lacks major public facilities; it is connected to the surrounding area by local roads that lead to Stična and the municipal centre of Ivančna Gorica. Public services such as education, healthcare, and retail are accessed in larger neighboring settlements.
  • Cultural and Historical Features: No distinct cultural monuments or historic buildings have been documented within the settlement itself. Its proximity to the Stična Abbey, a significant medieval religious site, makes the area part of the broader cultural landscape of Lower Carniola.
