Osaka Hurricane primarily refers to a professional wrestling tag team based in Japan. It can also colloquially refer to particularly destructive tropical cyclones (typhoons) that have impacted the Osaka region.
Professional Wrestling Tag Team
"Osaka Hurricane" is a tag team composed of Japanese professional wrestlers Sanshiro Takagi and Shigehiro Irie. The team gained prominence in DDT Pro-Wrestling (DDT), one of Japan's leading independent promotions.
- Members: Sanshiro Takagi, Shigehiro Irie
- Promotion: DDT Pro-Wrestling

Colloquial Usage
The term "Osaka Hurricane" has also been used colloquially to describe severe tropical cyclones that have caused significant damage to the city of Osaka and its surrounding Kansai region. While meteorologically these storms are classified as typhoons in the Western Pacific basin (where Japan is located), the immense destructive power of some events has led to the use of "hurricane" to emphasize their intensity, particularly in popular media or casual discussion.
A notable instance of this colloquial usage refers to Typhoon Jebi (known as Typhoon 21 in Japan) which struck the Kansai region in September 2018. Jebi was the strongest typhoon to make landfall in Japan in 25 years, causing widespread devastation, including severe flooding at Kansai International Airport, extensive damage to infrastructure, and numerous casualties. Due to its unprecedented ferocity and impact on Osaka, it was often described by residents and media as "Osaka's hurricane."
(Note: Tropical cyclones are named based on the region where they form: "hurricanes" in the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific, "typhoons" in the Northwest Pacific, and "cyclones" in the South Pacific and Indian Ocean.)
