The mall opened on October 10, 1973, and was originally developed by the Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation. It occupies a site adjacent to Interstate 4 and is situated near the Walt Disney World Resort.
Historical development
- 1970s–1980s: The mall originally featured anchor tenants such as J. C. Penney, Ivey's, and Belk.
- 1990s: Ivey's was converted to Dillard's following Dillard's acquisition of the Ivey's chain in 1990. Belk closed, and its space was later subdivided for other retailers.
- 2000s: The property underwent a major renovation that included interior redesign, new flooring, and the addition of a food court. Several national retailers, including Forever 21 and Ross Dress for Less, opened locations within the mall.
- 2010s–present: The mall has continued to adapt to changing retail trends, adding experiential venues and service-oriented tenants. In recent years, the property has been managed by Washington Prime Group (now part of WP Glimcher). Anchor tenants currently include Dillard's, J. C. Penney, and a Sears Hometown Store, though the latter has faced uncertainty due to broader corporate restructuring.
