Oleksandr Vytaliyovych Shlapak (Ukrainian: Олександр Віталійович Шлапак; born January 1, 1960) is a Ukrainian statesman, financier, and politician. He is best known for his significant roles in the Ukrainian government and financial sector, including serving as Minister of Finance during the crucial post-Euromaidan period and later as Chairman of the Board of PrivatBank after its nationalization.
Early Life and Education
Oleksandr Shlapak was born on January 1, 1960, in Irkutsk, then part of the Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. He graduated from the Lviv Polytechnic Institute in 1982 with a degree in automation of energy processes. He later earned a second degree in economics.Career

Shlapak has held several high-profile government positions:- Minister of Economy of Ukraine: From 2001 to 2002, he served as Minister of Economy in the government of Prime Minister Anatoliy Kinakh.
- Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine: Appointed in 2005 under President Viktor Yushchenko.
- First Deputy Head of the Presidential Secretariat: From 2007 to 2010, he continued in a senior advisory role to the President.
- Minister of Finance of Ukraine: On February 27, 2014, Shlapak was appointed Minister of Finance in the first post-Euromaidan government led by Arseniy Yatsenyuk. He served until December 2, 2014, overseeing the nation's finances during a period of significant political upheaval, economic instability, and the beginning of the conflict in eastern Ukraine. His tenure was marked by efforts to stabilize the national currency and secure international financial assistance.
Financial Sector
After his term as Minister of Finance, Shlapak returned to the financial sector:- Chairman of the Board of PrivatBank: In December 2016, following the nationalization of PrivatBank, Ukraine's largest commercial bank, Shlapak was appointed Chairman of the Board. He was tasked with stabilizing the institution and implementing reforms required after its transfer to state ownership. He resigned from this position in July 2017.
