Ochyrotica bjoernstadti is a species of moth in the family Pterophoridae (plume moths), within the subfamily Ochyroticinae. It was described by C. Gielis in 2008.
Taxonomy
The species was first described in the journal Zoölogische Mededelingen, Leiden (Volume 82, pages 45–46, figures 3 and 13), as part of a publication titled "Ten new species of Afrotropical Pterophoridae (Lepidoptera)." The original combination is Ochyrotica bjoernstadti spec. nov., and the species is accepted under this name.
Type Specimen
The holotype is a male (♂) with genitalia slide C. Gielis 3682♂, deposited at the Natural History Museum of Oslo (NHMO). It was collected on 7 May 1979 at an elevation of 1,100 meters in Tubira Forest, Kigoma District, Tanzania, by A. Bjørnstadt, after whom the species is named.
Distribution
The species is recorded from Tanzania.
Description
The wingspan is approximately 16 mm. The moth flies in May, during the southern hemisphere autumn. Its larval food plants are unknown.
