OR2F1 (Olfactory Receptor Family 2 Subfamily F Member 1) is a gene that encodes the olfactory receptor 2F1 protein in humans. It is located on chromosome 7 at band 7q35.

Function

Olfactory receptors, including OR2F1, are G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that interact with odorant molecules in the nose. This interaction initiates a neuronal response that triggers the perception of smell. These receptors share a characteristic 7-transmembrane domain structure and are responsible for the recognition and G protein-mediated transduction of odorant signals. The olfactory receptor gene family is the largest in the human genome.

Protein

The OR2F1 protein is a member of the large family of olfactory receptor proteins. It is encoded by a single coding-exon gene, which is typical for olfactory receptors. The protein is expressed in various tissues, including tibial arteries, the apex of the heart, smooth muscle tissue, the sural nerve, placenta, and the anterior cingulate cortex, among others.
