The Norman Paterson School of International Affairs (NPSIA) is a professional school of international affairs at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Established in 1965, it is named after Senator Norman McLeod Paterson, a Canadian businessman and philanthropist whose donation facilitated the school's creation.
NPSIA offers graduate-level programs focused on the study of international relations, including the Master of Arts (MA) in International Affairs and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in International Affairs. The MA program allows for specializations in fields such as Conflict Analysis and Resolution, International Development Policy, International Economic Policy, Intelligence and National Security, and International Organizations and Global Public Policy.
The school is located in the River Building on the Carleton University campus. It houses several research centers and institutes, including the Centre for Trade Policy and Law (CTPL), the Canadian Centre for Treaty Compliance (CCTC), and the Centre for Security and Defence Studies (CSDS). NPSIA publishes the Canadian Foreign Policy Journal and maintains a co-op education option for master's students, facilitating placements within the Government of Canada, non-governmental organizations, and international institutions.
