Nixon, Texas

Nixon, Texas is a city located in Gonzales County, Texas, United States. It is situated approximately 60 miles east of San Antonio.

History The community of Nixon was established in 1906 with the arrival of the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway. It was named in honor of George H. Nixon, a vice president and general manager of the railway. The town quickly grew as a shipping point for agricultural products from the surrounding area. Nixon was officially incorporated as a city in 1919.

Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.6 km²), all of it land. It is located at the intersection of U.S. Highway 87 and Farm to Market Road 1117.

Demographics As of the 2020 United States Census, the population of Nixon was 2,596. The city's demographics reflect a diverse population common in South Central Texas.

Economy Historically, Nixon's economy was primarily driven by agriculture, with cotton, peanuts, poultry, and cattle being significant products. While agriculture still plays a role, the local economy today also includes small businesses, retail, and services catering to the local community and travelers passing through on U.S. Highway 87.
