Nijisanji

Nijisanji (Japanese: にじさんじ) is a Japanese virtual YouTuber (VTuber) talent agency and entertainment brand owned by ANYCOLOR Inc. (formerly Ichikara Inc.). Established in 2018, the agency manages a roster of virtual personalities who produce livestreams, video content, music, and participate in various multimedia projects across platforms such as YouTube, Twitch, and Bilibili.

History

  • Founding: Nijisanji was launched in February 2018 following an open audition (“Nijisanji Audition 2018”) that recruited its inaugural group of VTubers, including Tsukino Mito, Shizuka Rin, Kuzuha, Kanae, and Yashiro Kizuku.
  • Corporate Evolution: The agency was originally created under Ichikara Inc., a company established by entertainment producer Riku Aoyama. In July 2021, Ichikara Inc. was renamed ANYCOLOR Inc. and subsequently listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange’s Mothers market in December 2021.

Organizational Structure
Nijisanji operates multiple regional divisions:

Division Primary Language Launch Year
Nijisanji JP Japanese 2018
Nijisanji EN English 2020
Nijisanji KR Korean 2020
Nijisanji ID Indonesian 2021
Nijisanji CH (formerly) Mandarin 2020–2022 (ceased operations)

Each division maintains its own set of talents, production staff, and marketing teams, while sharing common branding and collaborative events.

Talent Roster
As of 2024, Nijisanji’s combined roster exceeds 200 virtual talents across its regional branches. Members typically stream video‑game playthroughs, “just chatting” sessions, music performances, and collaborative content. The agency also supports subsidiary projects such as music groups (e.g., “Nijisanji Music” and “Asteries”) and virtual idol units.

Business Activities

  • Content Production: Nijisanji creators regularly publish live streams and edited videos, monetized through platform ad revenue, Super Chats, channel memberships, and brand sponsorships.
  • Music Releases: The agency produces original songs and albums performed by its VTubers, distributed on streaming services (e.g., Spotify, Apple Music) and sold as digital downloads.
  • Live Events: Nijisanji organizes both virtual and in‑person events, including “Nijisanji Fest,” fan meetings, and concert tours, often featuring multiple talents simultaneously.
  • Merchandising: Official merchandise—including character goods, apparel, and digital assets—are sold via the Nijisanji online store and partner retailers.

Notable Incidents

  • In February 2020, several Japanese talents were temporarily suspended after violating internal streaming guidelines, prompting revisions to Nijisanji’s content policies.
  • The Chinese division (Nijisanji CH) was discontinued in 2022 due to strategic refocusing on other markets.

Corporate Significance
Nijisanji is one of the largest VTuber agencies globally, contributing to the mainstream visibility of virtual entertainers in Japan and abroad. Its business model—combining talent management, media production, and multi‑regional expansion—has been influential in shaping the broader VTuber industry.
