Nidal Mohamed bin Shirbak Al Tunaiji (Arabic: نضال محمد بن شرباك الطنيجي) is an Emirati academic and politician. In 2007, she was one of the first group of women to enter the Federal National Council (FNC), the consultative parliamentary body of the United Arab Emirates.
Biography
Al Tunaiji is the oldest of nine children and was educated in the United States. She earned a doctorate in education leadership and subsequently became an assistant professor in information technology at the United Arab Emirates University.
Political career
Following the 2006 parliamentary elections, she was one of eight women appointed to the Federal National Council, alongside the one elected woman, Amal Al Qubaisi. Al Tunaiji served in the FNC from 2007 to 2011, representing the constituency of Ras al-Khaimah. She left the FNC after the 2011 elections but was reappointed in 2015 and again in 2019.
In addition to her parliamentary role, she serves as the director general of the Zayed House for Islamic Culture. She has also led the UAE Parliamentary Division's group in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), participating in international diplomatic engagements, including meetings with parliamentary delegations from Pakistan and attendance at APA General Assemblies.
