Nicholas McDonald

Nicholas McDonald (born November 23, 1996) is a Scottish singer who gained prominence as the runner-up on the tenth series of the British singing competition The X Factor in 2013. He signed with RCA Records after the show and released his debut album, In the Arms of an Angel, in 2014.

Early Life

Nicholas McDonald was born in Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. He developed an interest in singing from a young age and began performing locally. Prior to his appearance on The X Factor, he was a student at St Aidan's High School.

The X Factor

In 2013, McDonald auditioned for the tenth series of The X Factor. He impressed the judges with his vocal ability and progressed through the competition, mentored by Louis Walsh in the Boys category. Throughout the live shows, he consistently received support from the public and eventually reached the final. He ultimately finished as the runner-up to Sam Bailey. His journey on the show was notable for his strong, emotive vocal performances, particularly on ballads.

Career Post-X Factor

Following his success on The X Factor, McDonald signed a record deal with RCA Records.

  • Debut Album: His debut album, In the Arms of an Angel, was released on March 17, 2014. The album featured covers of popular songs as well as some original tracks. It peaked at number 6 on the UK Albums Chart.
  • Touring and Independent Music: After his album release, McDonald embarked on a tour to promote his music. He later parted ways with RCA Records and continued to pursue his music career independently.
