Nicholas "Nick" Mallett (born 16 June 1956) is a South African former rugby union player and coach. He played as a flanker for the Western Province Rugby Union in South Africa and later pursued a coaching career. Mallett is most prominently known for serving as the head coach of the South Africa national rugby union team, the Springboks, from 1997 to 2000, during which the team achieved notable victories, including a series win over New Zealand in 1998. After his tenure with the Springboks, he coached the Japanese national team (the Brave Blossoms) from 2001 to 2003 and later held coaching positions with several club teams, including the Sharks (Super Rugby) and the Harlequins (English Premiership). In addition to coaching, Mallett has worked as a rugby analyst and commentator for various broadcast networks. His contributions to the sport have been recognized within the rugby community for both his on‑field strategies and his role in developing international rugby programs.
