Ngawa Hongyuan Airport

Ngawa Hongyuan Airport (IATA: AHJ, ICAO: ZUHY) is a domestic airport located in Hongyuan County, Ngawa (Aba) Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, China. Situated at an elevation of approximately 3,535 meters (11,598 feet) above sea level, it is classified as a high-plateau airport.

Construction of the facility began in July 2012 with a total investment of approximately 900 million yuan. The airport officially commenced operations on August 28, 2014. It was the second airport built in the Ngawa Prefecture, following Jiuzhai Huanglong Airport.

The airport features a single runway measuring 3,600 meters (11,811 feet) in length and 45 meters in width. Due to the thin air at its high altitude, the runway length is designed to accommodate the performance requirements of aircraft such as the Airbus A319 and Boeing 737-700. The terminal building covers an area of approximately 3,500 square meters and is designed to facilitate an annual passenger throughput of 250,000 and a cargo capacity of 900 tons.

The primary function of Ngawa Hongyuan Airport is to provide air access to the Hongyuan grasslands and the surrounding ZoigĂȘ Marsh area. It serves to improve regional transportation, support local economic development, and enhance emergency response capabilities in the eastern portion of the Tibetan Plateau. Most flight services connect the airport to major regional hubs, including Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.
