Neveklov is a town in the Benešov District in the Central Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic. It is situated approximately 15 kilometres (9 miles) west of Benešov and 35 km (22 miles) south of the capital city, Prague. The town lies in a mildly undulating landscape within the historical region of Bohemia.
History
The first documented mention of Neveklov dates back to 1285, when the settlement was listed among the possessions of the Monastery of St. George at Prague Castle. Throughout the medieval and early modern periods, ownership of Neveklov frequently changed hands between various noble families. It gained market town privileges in the 16th century, allowing it to host regular markets and fairs. A significant and challenging period in the town's history was during World War II, when the area surrounding Neveklov was designated as an SS training ground, leading to the forced evacuation and displacement of its entire population. Residents were permitted to return after the war's conclusion. Neveklov officially regained its status as a town in 2006.Geography and Demographics
