N. S. Pharande (1937–2018), born Nanasaheb Sitaram Pharande, was an Indian politician and a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state of Maharashtra. He held several significant constitutional and party positions during a political career spanning several decades.
Pharande served as the Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from 1990 to 1995. Following his tenure in the lower house, he served as the Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, the upper house of the state legislature, from 1998 to 2004. Within the organizational structure of the BJP, he served as the President of the party's Maharashtra state unit from 1986 to 1990.
Beyond his legislative roles, Pharande was involved in the educational sector. He served as the chairman of the Dnyaneshwar Gramonnati Mandal, an educational institution based in Narayangaon, Pune district. He was also known for his oratory and his contributions to the cooperative movement in Maharashtra.
Pharande died on January 16, 2018, in Pune at the age of 80 following a period of illness. He is remembered for his administrative conduct in the state legislature and his role in the growth of the BJP in Maharashtra.
