Myron Brinig (born August 5, 1940) is an American legal scholar, author, and professor of law. He is best known for his contributions to legal education, his tenure as dean of the University of Texas School of Law, and his work as a novelist and short‑story writer.
Early life and education
Brinig was born in Chicago, Illinois. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota and a Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota Law School. He later pursued graduate studies in English literature, receiving a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Montana.
Academic career
- University of Texas School of Law: Brinig joined the faculty in 1975, teaching courses in legal writing, contracts, and legal ethics. He served as dean of the law school from 1998 to 2005, overseeing significant curriculum reforms and faculty expansion.
- Scholarly contributions: He has authored numerous articles on legal writing, professional responsibility, and contracts. His textbook Elements of Legal Writing is widely used in law schools across the United States.
