Mushahid Ullah Khan (15 August 1952 – 18 February 2021) was a Pakistani politician affiliated with the Pakistan Muslim League (N) (PML‑N). He served in various capacities within the federal government, most notably as the Minister of Climate Change from August 2017 to May 2018, and previously as Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting.
Early life and education
Mushahid Ullah Khan was born in Bannu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. He completed his early education at local schools before obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Peshawar. He later earned a Master’s degree in Political Science from the same institution.
Political career
Khan began his political involvement in the 1970s, initially aligning with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) before joining the Pakistan Muslim League (N) in the early 1990s. He was first elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan from Constituency NA‑26 (Bannu) in the 1997 general election. He subsequently secured re‑elections from the same constituency in the 2002, 2008, and 2013 general elections, serving multiple terms as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA).
During the tenure of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Khan was appointed Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting (1997–1999). After the 2013 elections, he was appointed Federal Minister for Communications, a position he held until the cabinet’s reshuffle in 2014. In August 2017, following the disqualification of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Khan was appointed Minister of Climate Change in the cabinet of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, a role he maintained until the dissolution of the National Assembly in May 2018.
Legislative contributions and initiatives
As Minister of Climate Change, Khan oversaw the implementation of Pakistan’s National Climate Change Policy and promoted initiatives related to renewable energy, reforestation, and climate‑resilient agriculture. He advocated for increased international cooperation on climate financing and represented Pakistan in several United Nations climate conferences.

Mushahid Ullah Khan was married and had children. He was known for his involvement in community development projects in his native Bannu district, including the establishment of educational institutions and health clinics.
Death
Khan died on 18 February 2021 in Islamabad after a brief illness. His death was reported by national news outlets, and he was accorded a state funeral with attendance from political leaders across party lines.
