Municipality of Yass

The Municipality of Yass was a local government authority in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia. Established on 13 March 1873, it administered the urban area surrounding the town of Yass. The municipality functioned independently until 1 January 1980, when it was amalgamated with the surrounding Yass Shire under a state‑mandated reorganization of local government boundaries. The merged entity continued as Yass Shire, which later became part of the Yass Valley Council in 2004 following further statewide council amalgamations. The former municipality’s responsibilities included local infrastructure, community services, and regulation within the town’s limits during its existence.
