Movements is an American post‑hardcore/emo band formed in 2015 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The group is known for its blend of melodic songwriting, introspective lyrics, and dynamic shifts between soft and heavy musical passages.
History
Movements was founded by vocalist Patrick Miranda, guitarist Brett Chiodo, bassist Austin Cressey, and drummer Spencer York. The band released its debut single, “The Truth About Love,” in May 2015, followed by the EP Movements in July 2015, which garnered attention within the underground hardcore community. Their first full‑length album, Feel Nothing, was released on March 10, 2017, through Fearless Records and peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Top Independent Albums chart. The record received critical praise for its emotional depth and concise song structures.
In 2018, Movements embarked on a North American tour supporting the band Counterparts and performed at several major festivals, including the Vans Warped Tour. After a brief hiatus, the band released a second album, No Good Left to Give, on February 7, 2020. The album debuted at number 31 on the Billboard 200 and featured singles such as “Don't Give Up” and “Lies”.
Musical style and influences
Movements' music is characterized by clean, melodic vocal delivery combined with occasional harsh screaming, intricate guitar work, and a rhythm section that alternates between driving grooves and atmospheric passages. Critics have compared the band's sound to groups such as The Wonder Years, La Dispute, and Title Fight. Lyrical themes frequently explore mental health, personal struggle, and existential reflection.
