Morris Wilson

Morris Wilson is a name shared by several individuals, the most prominent being Morris Watson Wilson (1 March 1883 – 14 May 1946), a Canadian banker who served as president of the Royal Bank of Canada and Chancellor of McGill University.

Morris Watson Wilson was born in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. He served as president of the Royal Bank of Canada from 1934 to 1946, becoming the first professional banker to head the institution.

During World War II, Wilson held significant wartime responsibilities. In 1941, he was appointed vice-chairman of the British Supply Council in North America and became its chairman later that year following the death of Arthur Blaikie Purvis. He also led the Atlantic Ferry Organisation (ATFERO), the civilian precursor to the RAF Ferry Command, and served as the North American representative of the British Ministry of Aircraft Production. For his wartime contributions, he was appointed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George (CMG) in 1944.

Wilson served as Chancellor of McGill University from 1943 until his death in 1946, having been a Governor of the university since 1937. He held both the chancellorship and the presidency of the Royal Bank of Canada until his sudden death from a heart attack in Montreal, Quebec, on 14 May 1946.
