The Montenegrin Regional Cups (Montenegrin: Crnogorski regionalni kupovi) are lower-tier football knockout competitions in Montenegro, in which members of the Montenegrin Third League participate. There are three regional cups divided by geographic region: the Northern Region Cup (Kup Sjeverne regije), the Central Region Cup (Kup Srednje regije), and the Southern Region Cup (Kup Južne regije). The finalists of each regional cup qualify for the Montenegrin Cup.
History
Following Montenegro's independence in 2006, the Football Association of Montenegro established the Montenegrin Cup as the national cup competition. All members of the Montenegrin First League and Montenegrin Second League qualify directly for the Montenegrin Cup. Members of the Montenegrin Third League instead compete in the Regional Cups, with the six best clubs (the winner and runner-up from each of the three regions) advancing to the first round of the Montenegrin Cup. The Regional Cups are played during the summer (August/September), just before the start of the Montenegrin Cup season.
Format
The competition is divided into three regional divisions:
- Northern Region Cup (Kup Sjeverne regije) – for clubs from the Third Montenegrin League – North.
- Central Region Cup (Kup Srednje regije) – for clubs from the Third Montenegrin League – Central.
- Southern Region Cup (Kup Južne regije) – for clubs from the Third Montenegrin League – South.
Each season, the winner and runner-up of each regional cup qualify for the Montenegrin Cup.
