Habitat and Distribution

  • Typically found semi‑buried in fine sediments (silt or sand) on coasts of the North Atlantic, including the coasts of the British Isles, France, and the Iberian Peninsula.

Biology and Ecology

Conservation Status

Research and Significance

  • Molgula species are often used in developmental biology studies due to their relatively simple body plan and transparent embryology. However, specific literature focusing on M. oculata is modest compared with more widely studied ascidians such as Ciona intestinalis.
