Mobileye Global Inc. is an Israeli-American technology company that develops self-driving cars and advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS). Founded in 1999 by Amnon Shashua and Ziv Aviram, Mobileye specializes in computer vision, data analysis, localization, and mapping for ADAS and autonomous driving technologies.
The company's core product is its EyeQ family of system-on-chip (SoC) processors and associated software algorithms, which process visual information from cameras to interpret a driving scene. This technology enables features such as lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. Mobileye's solutions are integrated into vehicles by numerous global automotive manufacturers, providing a foundational layer for both L1/L2 ADAS capabilities and L3/L4/L5 autonomous driving systems.
In March 2017, Intel Corporation announced its intent to acquire Mobileye for approximately $15.3 billion, one of the largest acquisitions of an Israeli technology company. The acquisition was completed in August 2017, and Mobileye became an independent business unit within Intel. In October 2022, Intel spun off a portion of Mobileye through an initial public offering (IPO), while retaining a majority stake.
Mobileye's technology aims to reduce traffic accidents and fatalities, enhance driver safety, and eventually enable fully autonomous vehicles. Their approach often combines camera-centric sensing with crowdsourced mapping data (Road Experience Management - REM) to build and maintain high-definition maps for autonomous navigation.
