Miss Earth 2024

Miss Earth 2024 was the 24th edition of the Miss Earth pageant, an annual international environmental-themed beauty competition. The event was held on November 9, 2024, at Okada Manila in Parañaque, Metro Manila, Philippines. The pageant's theme was "Heritage," intended to promote the eco-tourism destinations of the host country and the cultural heritage of the contestants.

Background

Location and date

In September 2024, the Miss Earth organization announced that the Philippines would host the 2024 edition. The coronation night took place on November 9, 2024, at Okada Manila in Parañaque, with pre-pageant activities beginning in October 2024.

Participant selection

The edition was expected to feature up to 95 contestants. Ultimately, 76 contestants competed. The pageant marked the debut of Algeria and the United Arab Emirates, and featured the returns of El Salvador (last competing in 2015), Samoa (2018), Fiji (2019), Costa Rica and Iceland (2020), Italy (2021), and Hong Kong and Cabo Verde (2022). Nineteen countries withdrew after their national organizations failed to hold competitions, and Bosnia and Herzegovina's Hena Mašović and Croatia's Lana Vuković withdrew due to visa issues.

Results

At the conclusion of the event, Drita Ziri of Albania, the outgoing Miss Earth 2023, crowned Jessica Lane of Australia as her successor. The win marked Australia's first Miss Earth title and made it the sixth country overall, and the first from the Oceanian region, to have won all of the so-called "Big Four" international beauty pageants.

The elemental court consisted of:

Placement Contestant
Miss Earth 2024 Australia – Jessica Lane
Miss Earth – Air 2024 Iceland – Hrafnhildur Haraldsdóttir
Miss Earth – Water 2024 United States – Bea Millan-Windorski
Miss Earth – Fire 2024 Peru – Niva Antezana

The remaining runners-up included contestants from Cabo Verde, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Russia. A Top 12 and a Top 20 were also named, with Poland's Julia Zawistowska voted into the Top 20 by viewers.

Judges

The panel of judges included Jimmy Yim (chairman of Drew & Napier LLC), Lorraine Schuck (executive vice president of Carousel Productions), environmental advocate Matthias Gelber, and former Miss Earth winners Priscilla Meirelles (2004), Jamie Herrell (2014), Karen Ibasco (2017), and Mina Sue Choi (2022).

Pre-pageant activities

Delegates arrived in the Philippines from October 19 to 21, 2024, and from October 24 to November 5 visited various destinations and participated in educational tours. On October 23, 75 delegates were presented at Okada Manila in partnership with Designers Circle Philippines, showcasing indigenous Philippine weaves. Notable preliminary awards included Best Philippine Heritage Attire, Darling of the Press, Best in Appearance, a Talent Competition, and an Upcycling Fashion Show.

Significance

As with prior editions, Miss Earth promotes environmental awareness and sustainable development, with winners serving as ambassadors for environmental causes. The 2024 edition continued this focus through its "Heritage" theme and related advocacy activities.
