Misa is a genus of moths in the family Noctuidae. The genus was erected by the German entomologist Ferdinand Karsch in 1895.
Taxonomy
The genus was first described by Karsch in 1895 in the journal Entomologische Nachrichten, with the type species being Misa memnonia Karsch, 1895, designated by original selection. The genus is placed within the subfamily Agaristinae of the family Noctuidae. According to the Global Lepidoptera Names Index (Natural History Museum, London), the name Misa is considered a synonym of Schausia Karsch, 1895.
Species
The genus comprises the following four accepted species:
- Misa cosmetica Karsch, 1898 — recorded from Cameroon, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, and Togo.
- Misa costistrigata (Bethune-Baker, 1927) — recorded from Cameroon. Originally described in the genus Tuerta.
- Misa memnonia Karsch, 1895 — recorded from Cameroon, Gambia, Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo. This is the type species of the genus.
- Misa schultzei (Aurivillius, 1925) — recorded from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Originally described in the genus Tuerta.
Distribution
All known species of Misa are restricted to the Afrotropical realm, with records primarily from West and Central Africa.
