Mirza Valiyev

Mirza Alasgar oghlu Valiyev (Azerbaijani: Mirzə Ələsgər oğlu Vəliyev; 1923, Nakhchivan – 1994, Baku) was a prominent Azerbaijani literary critic, literary scholar, and publicist. He was a Doctor of Philology, a professor, and a significant figure in the development of Azerbaijani literary criticism during the Soviet and post-Soviet periods.

Biography Mirza Valiyev was born in 1923 in Nakhchivan, which was then part of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic. He received his higher education at the Faculty of Philology of Azerbaijan State University (now Baku State University), where he developed a deep interest in literature and literary theory. After completing his studies, he dedicated his life to academic and critical work in the field of Azerbaijani literature. He passed away in Baku in 1994.

Career and Contributions Valiyev spent a substantial part of his career at the Institute of Literature named after Nizami Ganjavi, which is part of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences.
