Minusinsky District

Minusinsky District (Russian: Минусинский район) is an administrative and municipal district (raion) in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia. It is situated in the southern part of the krai, bordering the Republic of Tuva to the south and several other districts of Krasnoyarsk Krai. The district encompasses a predominantly rural territory characterized by steppe and forest-steppe landscapes.

Administrative status
Minusinsky District is one of the forty-two districts of Krasnoyarsk Krai. The town of Minusinsk serves as the administrative centre of the district; however, Minusinsk is incorporated separately as a town of krai significance and is not part of the district's administrative jurisdiction. Within the framework of administrative divisions, the district is divided into several selsoviets (rural councils) that manage the localities under its authority.

Municipal formation
As a municipal entity, the district is incorporated as Minusinsky Municipal District. The municipal district comprises a number of rural settlements, each corresponding to the administrative selsoviets. The municipal structures are responsible for local self‑government functions, including the provision of public services, land use planning, and community development.

Geography and demographics
The district covers an area of approximately 3,600 km². According to the 2010 Russian Census, the population of Minusinsky District was around 30,000 inhabitants, the majority of whom reside in rural localities. The demographic composition is primarily ethnic Russian, with minorities of indigenous peoples and other ethnic groups typical of the broader Krasnoyarsk region.

Economy
The local economy is largely based on agriculture, livestock breeding, and related agro‑industrial activities. The district's fertile soils support the cultivation of cereals, potatoes, and vegetables. In addition, small‑scale forestry and mineral extraction enterprises operate within the district's boundaries.

Transportation
Transportation infrastructure includes regional road networks that connect the district’s rural settlements with the town of Minusinsk and the broader road system of Krasnoyarsk Krai. The proximity to Minusinsk provides access to rail services and other transport facilities.

Culture and education
Minusinsky District hosts several cultural institutions, including libraries, cultural houses, and schools that serve its rural population. Traditional village festivals and events reflect the cultural heritage of the region.
