Minuscule 924

Minuscule 924 is a Greek minuscule manuscript of the New Testament that is catalogued in the Gregory‑Aland numbering system, which is the standard catalogue used in New Testament textual criticism. The manuscript is written in the Byzantine minuscule script and, according to the Institute for New Testament Textual Research (INTF), it has been paleographically assigned to the 13th century, although some scholars have suggested a dating that may extend into the early 14th century.

Physical description

  • Material: The codex is composed of paper leaves (the exact number of folios varies among catalogues).
  • Layout: The text is arranged in a single column per page, with an average of 25–30 lines per page.
  • Added features: The manuscript contains marginal lectionary markings, chapter (κεφαλαια) numbers, and titles (τιτλοι) that were typical of Byzantine liturgical manuscripts.

Contents
The extant portions of Minuscule 924 contain the text of the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John). The manuscript does not include a complete text of the entire New Testament; the remaining books are either missing or were never part of this codex.

Textual character
Minuscule 924 is classified within the Byzantine text‑type, which is the dominant textual tradition in the majority of later Greek manuscripts. In the Aland categories, it is placed in Category V, indicating that it is of limited significance for establishing the original text but valuable for the study of the development of the Byzantine tradition.

Provenance and current location
The manuscript is presently housed at the National Library of Greece (Saidier 120), Athens. Its acquisition history prior to the 20th century is not well documented.

Scholarly study
Minuscule 924 has been examined and collated in several critical editions of the Greek New Testament, including the Editio Critica Maior. It is cited in the Kurzgefasste Liste der griechischen Handschriften des Neuen Testaments (Kurzgefasste Liste, 1994, entry 924) and referenced in the Institute for New Testament Textual Research’s online catalogue.
