Minuscule 910

Minuscule 910 (in the Gregory-Aland numbering system) is a Greek manuscript of the New Testament, written in minuscule script on parchment. It is cataloged by the Institut für Neutestamentliche Textforschung (INTF) as a witness to the New Testament text.

Description The manuscript is dated by paleographers to the 12th century. It consists of 281 parchment leaves, measuring approximately 21.5 cm by 16 cm. The text is presented in one column per page, with 25 lines per page. The codex is complete with accents and breathings, which are typical features of Greek minuscule manuscripts from this period. It also includes lectionary markings in the margins, indicating passages for reading during church services.

Contents Minuscule 910 contains the entire New Testament except for the Book of Revelation. The customary order of the books within the manuscript is as follows:

  • The Four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John)
  • The Acts of the Apostles
  • The Catholic Epistles (James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, Jude)
  • The Pauline Epistles (Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews)

Textual Character In the field of textual criticism, Minuscule 910 is classified as belonging to the Byzantine text-type. Kurt Aland assigned it to Category V, which denotes manuscripts containing a predominantly Byzantine text. This text-type largely reflects the standard ecclesiastical text used in the Greek-speaking world during the later Byzantine period. While Minuscule 910 is valuable for understanding the transmission of the Byzantine tradition, it is not considered one of the primary or earliest witnesses for reconstructing the original text of the New Testament.

History and Location The manuscript was acquired from Greece by Coislin, an antiquarian and collector. It is currently preserved in the Bibliothèque nationale de France (National Library of France) in Paris, where it is cataloged as Gr. 99 (Coislin Gr. 99).
