Definition
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyz: Тышкы иштер министрлиги, Russian: Министерство иностранных дел) is the government department responsible for conducting Kyrgyzstan’s foreign relations, representing the state in international organizations, and providing consular services to its citizens abroad.
Overview
The ministry is headquartered in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan, and operates under the jurisdiction of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic. It formulates and implements the country’s diplomatic policy, negotiates treaties, manages Kyrgyz diplomatic missions worldwide, and coordinates participation in multilateral bodies such as the United Nations and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The incumbent minister, Jeenbek Kulubayev, has held the post since 22 April 2022.
Etymology / Origin
The Kyrgyz name “Тышкы иштер министрлиги” combines the words түшк (“foreign” or “outside”), иштер (“affairs”), and министрлиги (“ministry”). The Russian designation “Министерство иностранных дел” follows the standard Soviet‑era terminology for foreign ministries.
