Ministry of Economy (Turkey)

The Ministry of Economy (Turkish: Ekonomi Bakanlığı) was a government ministry of the Republic of Turkey, responsible for the overall economic policies and regulation of international trade and investment. Its primary functions included fostering sustainable economic growth, increasing Turkey's competitiveness in the global market, attracting foreign direct investment, promoting exports, and protecting domestic industries.

The Ministry was involved in a wide array of activities, including:

  • Trade Policy: Developing and implementing trade policies, negotiating trade agreements with other countries and international organizations, and representing Turkey's interests in the World Trade Organization (WTO).
  • Investment Promotion: Attracting foreign direct investment into Turkey through various incentives and promotional activities.
  • Export Promotion: Supporting Turkish exporters through various programs, including export credits, insurance, and market research.
  • Consumer Protection: Ensuring fair competition and protecting the rights of consumers.
  • Regional Development: Promoting economic development in less developed regions of Turkey.

The Ministry of Economy was abolished and its functions were largely absorbed by the newly established Ministry of Trade (Turkish: Ticaret Bakanlığı) in 2018. The Ministry of Trade assumed responsibility for trade, customs, and related international economic relations.
