Milind Kamble

Milind Kamble (born 14 February 1956) is an Indian social entrepreneur and industrialist known for his contributions to the empowerment of persons with disabilities. He is the founder and chairman of the National Association of the Disabled (NADECO), a Mumbai‑based organization established in 1995 to promote the education, employment, and social integration of disabled individuals.

Early life and education
Kamble was born in Pune, Maharashtra. He completed his secondary education in Maharashtra and later pursued technical training in mechanical engineering, which laid the foundation for his later work in manufacturing and entrepreneurship.

Career and entrepreneurship
In the early 1980s, Kamble entered the automobile sector as a mechanic and later established his own workshop, Kamble Auto Services. Recognizing the challenges faced by disabled persons in obtaining suitable mobility aids, he initiated the design and production of affordable wheelchairs and prosthetic devices. This venture evolved into a larger enterprise focused on manufacturing assistive technologies, employing numerous disabled workers.

National Association of the Disabled (NADECO)
In 1995, Kamble founded NADECO with the objective of creating sustainable livelihood opportunities for persons with disabilities. Under his leadership, NADECO has set up training centers, workshops, and small-scale manufacturing units across India. The organization also collaborates with government agencies and private sector partners to advocate for inclusive policies and to promote the employment of disabled individuals in mainstream industries.

Awards and recognitions

  • Padma Shri (2012) – The Government of India conferred the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth highest civilian award, on Kamble for his contributions to social work and entrepreneurship.
  • National Award for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (2010) – Awarded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment for his efforts in disability empowerment.
  • Other recognitions – Kamble has received several state-level honors and has been invited to speak at national and international forums on inclusive entrepreneurship.

Philanthropy and advocacy
Beyond NADECO, Kamble is involved in various initiatives aimed at improving accessibility and social inclusion. Milind Kamble is married and has children. He continues to reside in Mumbai, where he oversees the operations of NADECO and remains active in advocacy for disability rights.
