Mikhail Yakovlevich Nozhkin (Russian: Михаил Яковлевич Ножкин; born 10 May 1937) is a Soviet and Russian actor, poet, and singer. He is noted for his performances in film, theater, and as a bard‑songwriter, and has been recognized with several state honors.
Early life and education
Nozhkin was born in Moscow, Russian SFSR, USSR. He pursued formal acting training at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography (VGIK), graduating in 1960.
Acting career
Following his graduation, Nozhkin began working with various Soviet film studios and theater companies. He gained widespread recognition for his role as Yegor Prokofiev in the 1974 film The Red Snowball Tree (Russian: Красная берёза), directed by Vasily Shukshin. Other notable film appearances include The Living Corpse (1968), The Unfinished Piece for Mechanical Piano (1977), and the television series The Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed (1979). Over his career, he has performed in more than sixty productions across film and stage.
Music and poetry
In addition to acting, Nozhkin is an accomplished poet and bard. He began writing and performing his own songs in the early 1970s, often accompanying himself on acoustic guitar. His lyrical work is characterized by personal reflection and social commentary, and several of his compositions have been recorded by other Soviet and Russian singers.
