Mikhail Murashko

Mikhail Vladimirovich Murashko (Russian: Михаил Владимирович Мурашко; born 9 January 1967) is a Russian physician and politician who has served as the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation since 21 January 2020.

Early life and education
Murashko was born in the city of Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg), Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. He graduated from the First Pavlov State Medical University of St. Petersburg in 1991 with a degree in general medicine. He later earned a Candidate of Sciences (PhD equivalent) in medical sciences.

Medical career
Following his graduation, Murashko worked in various clinical and administrative positions within the Russian healthcare system. He held senior roles at the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Central Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics” and served as chief physician of the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health.

Political career
In 2012, Murashko was appointed Deputy Minister of Health of the Russian Federation. He continued in this capacity, overseeing the development of health policy, medical education, and public health initiatives. On 21 January 2020, he was appointed Minister of Health by President Vladimir Putin, succeeding Veronika Skvortsova. As minister, Murashko has been responsible for managing the Russian health system, including the response to the COVID‑19 pandemic, reforms to medical insurance, and the implementation of digital health technologies.

Publications and professional affiliations
Murashko is the author of numerous scientific articles and monographs on trauma surgery, emergency medicine, and health administration. He is a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences’ Medical Section and holds positions in several professional medical societies.

Personal life
Murashko is married and has children. He is known to be an avid sports enthusiast, participating in marathon running and skiing.
