Mike Thompson (American football)

Michael "Mike" Ray Thompson (November 22, 1949 – February 24, 2008) was an American professional football player who played as a defensive tackle in the National Football League (NFL) for ten seasons during the 1970s and early 1980s.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Thompson played college football at the University of Miami, where he was a notable defensive lineman. He was selected by the Baltimore Colts as the 21st overall pick in the first round of the 1971 NFL Draft.

Thompson's NFL career began with the Baltimore Colts, where he played from 1971 to 1975. He then transitioned to the Atlanta Falcons, playing for them from 1976 to 1979. His professional career concluded with a season for the Detroit Lions in 1980. Over his career, Thompson played in 131 regular season games, starting 117 of them, establishing himself as a consistent presence on the defensive line for his respective teams.
