In the late 1970s, Chapman shifted focus to the emerging new‑wave scene. He produced Blond Blond’s debut album Parallel Lines (1978), which featured the multinational hit “Heart of Glass.” The album received critical acclaim and solidified Chapman’s reputation as a versatile producer capable of adapting to changing musical trends.

During the early 1980s, Chapman produced The Knack’s debut album Get the Feeling (1979), which included the worldwide hit “My Sharona.” He also worked extensively with Pat Benatar, producing several of her successful albums, such as Crimes of Passion (1980) and Precious Time (1981), yielding hits like “Hit Me with Your Love” and “Treat Me Right.”
