Mike Antonovich (born January 21, 1951) is a retired American professional ice hockey player. He played center and was known for his playmaking abilities and durability throughout a long career spanning the World Hockey Association (WHA) and the National Hockey League (NHL).
Antonovich began his professional career with the Minnesota Fighting Saints of the WHA in 1972. He quickly established himself as a key player, becoming one of the league's top scorers. He played for the Saints for several seasons before the franchise folded.
Following the demise of the Fighting Saints, Antonovich joined the New England Whalers (later the Hartford Whalers) of the WHA. He continued his impressive offensive production, consistently ranking among the league leaders in points.
When the Whalers joined the NHL in 1979 as part of the NHL-WHA merger, Antonovich made the transition to the NHL. He continued to play for the Hartford Whalers, serving as team captain for several years. He was a respected leader and a valuable contributor to the team's offense.
Later in his NHL career, Antonovich played for the Minnesota North Stars and the New Jersey Devils. He retired from professional hockey in 1986.
After his playing career, Antonovich remained involved in hockey. He worked as a coach and in various other roles within the sport. He is remembered as a skilled and reliable player who had a significant impact on both the WHA and the early years of the Hartford Whalers in the NHL.
