Microchimica Acta is a monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal covering research on chemical and biochemical analytical methods based on the use of micro- and nanomaterials. It is published by Springer Nature (Springer-Verlag Wien, Austria).
History
The journal was established in 1937 by Fritz Pregl, a Nobel Prize laureate in Chemistry (1923). It was originally published under the name Mikrochemie and later as Mikrochemie vereinigt mit Mikrochimica acta. From 1963 to 1965, it was titled Mikrochimica et ichnoanalytica acta. The journal adopted its current English title, Microchimica Acta, in subsequent years. The print version carries the ISSN 0026-3672, and the electronic version carries ISSN 1436-5073. The CODEN is MIACAQ.
Scope
The journal focuses on analytical sciences and technologies at the micro- and nanoscale. Coverage includes fundamental studies, practical applications, and new methodological approaches involving micro- and nano-structured materials such as nanoparticles, quantum dots, upconversion particles, micro/nano-wires, molecular frameworks, meso- and nanoporous materials, thin films, hybrid materials, and related nanosized matter. Application areas include point-of-care technologies, wearable (bio)sensors, in-vivo monitoring, micro/nanomotors, biomedical imaging, and targeting.
Editors-in-Chief
The current editors-in-chief are Mamas I. Prodromidis (University of Ioannina, Greece) and Alberto Escarpa (University of Alcalá, Spain). They succeeded Otto S. Wolfbeis (University of Regensburg, Germany), who served as editor-in-chief for many years until his passing in 2023.
