Mick Lonergan

Mick Lonergan (born 1944) is a former Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the New South Wales Rugby Football League (NSWRL) premiership in the 1960s and 1970s. He predominantly played as a prop forward and was renowned for his robust and uncompromising style of play in the front row.

Playing Career Lonergan commenced his first-grade career with the Parramatta Eels, making his debut in 1966. He quickly established himself as a vital component of the Eels' forward pack, playing over 100 first-grade games for the club across seven seasons (1966-1972). During his tenure at Parramatta, he earned a reputation as one of the toughest and most respected prop forwards in the competition.

His consistent and strong performances for Parramatta led to representative honours, most notably his selection for the City Firsts team in 1971, an important recognition of his standing in the game at the time.

In 1973, Lonergan transferred to the Balmain Tigers, where he continued his career for two seasons (1973-1974) before ultimately retiring from top-level rugby league.

Post-Playing Career After concluding his playing career, Lonergan maintained his involvement in rugby league through coaching roles. He coached various junior and lower-grade teams, including the Parramatta President's Cup side, where he contributed to the development and mentoring of aspiring rugby league talent.
