Michael Tavinor is a retired British Anglican priest who served as the Dean of Hereford from 2002 until 2021. Born in 1953, he was educated at University College, Durham, and King's College, Cambridge, before undertaking theological training at Ripon College Cuddesdon.
Tavinor was ordained as a deacon in 1981 and as a priest in 1982. His early ecclesiastical career included serving as a curate at St Peter's, Ealing, and as the Succentor of Ely Cathedral from 1985 to 1990. Prior to his appointment at Hereford, he served as the Vicar of Tewkesbury Abbey for twelve years, from 1990 to 2002.
During his tenure as the Dean of Hereford, Tavinor oversaw the administration and spiritual life of Hereford Cathedral. He is also a musician and an author, with a specific focus on church history, liturgy, and organ music. His published works include Tewkesbury Abbey: A History (2001) and Saints and Sinners of the Marches (2015). Upon his retirement in 2021, he was named Dean Emeritus of Hereford.
