Michael A. Gomez

Michael A. Gomez is an American historian and professor of history at the University of Texas at Austin. His scholarly work concentrates on the histories of medieval Iberia, the African diaspora, and early West African societies. Gomez is the author of African Dominion: A New History of Early West Africa (2018), a monograph that reevaluates the political and cultural development of West African states prior to the trans‑Atlantic slave trade.
