Miangas Airport (Indonesian: Bandar Udara Miangas) is a public airport serving the island of Miangas in the Talaud Islands Regency, North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The airport is designated IATA code IAX and ICAO code WAMS.
Location and Facilities
The airport is situated at coordinates 05°33′44″N 126°34′53″E, approximately 5.56° north latitude and 126.58° east longitude. It operates in the WITA time zone (UTC+08:00). Miangas Airport has a single asphalt runway oriented 03/21, measuring 1,400 metres (4,593 ft) in length and 30 metres in width, capable of accommodating turboprop aircraft such as the ATR‑72. An apron measuring 130 × 65 metres provides parking for up to three aircraft simultaneously, and a terminal building of roughly 356 m² serves passenger processing functions.
History
Construction of Miangas Airport began in 2012 with an investment of approximately Rp 275 billion. The airport was officially inaugurated on 12 March 2017 by the President of Indonesia. The inaugural commercial service was provided by Wings Air, operating a flight from Manado with a stopover at Melangguane Airport.
Operations
The airport is owned and operated by the Indonesian government. As of the latest available data, SAM Air (formerly Wings Air) provides scheduled passenger service linking Miangas with Melonguane and Tahuna, facilitating regional connectivity for the remote island community.
