Mišji Dol

Mišji Dol is a small settlement in southeastern Slovenia. It is located within the Municipality of Dolenjske Toplice, situated in the traditional region of Lower Carniola (Slovene: Dolenjska). Administratively, the municipality is part of the Southeast Slovenia Statistical Region.

Etymology The name Mišji Dol translates directly from Slovene as "Mouse Valley." It is a compound name derived from mišji, meaning "mouse's" or "mousy," and dol, meaning "valley." This type of toponym is common in Slovenia, often reflecting the local fauna or geographical characteristics.

Geography The settlement lies in a predominantly rural and forested area, characteristic of the landscape in the Lower Carniola region. It is situated a short distance from the municipal seat of Dolenjske Toplice, which is known for its thermal springs.

History Like many small settlements in the region, Mišji Dol's history is closely tied to the broader historical developments of Lower Carniola, including periods under Habsburg rule and later as part of Yugoslavia, before Slovenia's independence. Its economy traditionally centered around agriculture and forestry due to its natural surroundings.
