Mhlangana

Mhlangana (died 1828), also known as Umhlangana ka Senzangakhona, was a Zulu prince and member of the royal family of the Zulu Kingdom in what is now South Africa. He was a son of Chief Senzangakhona, making him a brother of the famed Zulu king Shaka Zulu and a half‑brother of Shaka’s successors Dingane and Mpande.

Mhlangana is noted for his involvement in the plot that led to Shaka’s assassination on 22 September 1828 at Dukuza (present‑day KwaDukuza). He collaborated with Dingane and Shaka’s induna (chief adviser) Mbopha ka Sithayi in the killing of Shaka. Shortly after the regicide, Mhlangana himself was assassinated by Dingane, who consolidated power and became king of the Zulu Kingdom.

Details concerning Mhlangana’s early life, birth date, and broader activities remain scarce, and most historical references to him focus on his role in the events surrounding Shaka’s death and his subsequent murder.
