Metro Parkway station, also known as the Thelda Williams Transit Center, is an elevated light rail station on the B Line of the Valley Metro Rail & Streetcar system in Phoenix, Arizona, United States. It serves as the northern terminus of the B Line and is the current northwestern terminus of the entire Valley Metro Rail system.
Location and Design
The station is located at 9827 N Metro Parkway East in Phoenix, situated on the east side of the former Metrocenter mall site. It consists of one elevated island platform with two tracks, making it the first elevated station in the Valley Metro Rail system. The facility includes a park-and-ride lot and a relocated bus transit hub.
History
The station opened on January 27, 2024, as part of the Northwest Extension Phase II project. The bus transit center was named after Thelda Williams, a former interim mayor of Phoenix.
Services
As of 2024, the Thelda Williams Transit Center is served by Valley Metro Bus Routes 27, 35, 90, 106, and the I-17 Rapid. The station is planned to become the northern terminus of the future Phoenix BRT (Bus Rapid Transit) 35th Avenue and Van Buren Street line, which will run from the transit center to Greg Stanton Central Station.
Transit-Oriented Development
The station is located adjacent to the former Metrocenter Mall, which closed in June 2020 and began demolition in November 2024. The site is undergoing an $850 million redevelopment project called "The Metropolitan," which will include retail space, office buildings, apartments, townhomes, restaurants, and public spaces on the 64-acre site. Construction on the first residential communities is expected to begin in April 2026.
