Metamorfosi is a village and a local community located within the Municipality of Kozani, in the West Macedonia region of northern Greece. It is situated in the regional unit of Kozani, approximately 20 kilometers from the city of Kozani.
Administrative Status Under the 2011 Kallikratis local government reform, Metamorfosi became part of the municipal unit of Kozani. As a local community, it is governed by the municipal authorities based in the city of Kozani.
Demographics and History The village is predominantly inhabited by descendants of Pontic Greek refugees who settled in the area following the 1923 population exchange between Greece and Turkey. The village was previously known by the name Dovratovo (Δοβράτοβο) before being renamed Metamorfosi, a common Greek toponym meaning "Transfiguration," referring to the Transfiguration of Jesus.
Geography and Economy Metamorfosi is positioned at an average altitude of approximately 650 meters above sea level. The local economy is primarily centered on agriculture and livestock farming. The village is located in a geographic area characterized by the transition between the mountains of West Macedonia and the Aliakmonas river basin.
Religion and Culture The central church of the village is dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Savior (Metamorfosi tou Sotiros), which serves as the namesake for the community. Local cultural activities are often organized by regional associations that preserve Pontic traditions, music, and dance.
